An avalanche of goals in Alex Sasol Women’s League match

ALEXANDRA - 'Asylum' match at the Alexandra Stadium rains an avalanche of goals.

It rained a dozen goals in this one-sided Sasol Women’s League match between Palace Super Falcons Ladies and VUT Ladies at the Alexandra Stadium.

Falcons played like the multi-championship winning side they are, putting 12 goals past VUT Ladies’ keeper as the Thembisa outfit won it 12–0.

Half of this avalanche of goals came through the boot of super striker of the day, Nokukhanya Zide who was on song in this game and would have easily walked away with the Player of the Match if such an award was given in this league.

It was Zide who opened the scoring in less than a minute of the start of the game, sounding a warning of what was to follow.

It was referred to as an ‘asylum’ match by the secretary general of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association, Mafika Morajane when asked by Alex News why they held this fixture of two ‘foreign’ sides at the Alexandra Stadium.

“Falcons approached us and asked if we could assist them as their ground is unavailable, and we gladly offered them an asylum for this match,” Morajane said.

Zide’s opening goal was followed by a simple tap-in from Lesego Mogotsi when the VUT Ladies keeper punched the ball back into play and it landed at the feet of Mogotsi who made no mistake.

The third goal came from Simphiwe Masina after which Zide scored her brace. Zandile Mxasa added her name on the scoresheet from a cross by the hard-working Tshegofatso Makinta.

Mogotsi also scored her brace to make the scoreline 6–0 before Zide bagged her hat-trick and Mxasa recorded her brace with the teams going into the halftime break with Falcons leading 8–0.

In the second half, Zide scored her double hat-trick and not to be outdone Mxasa scored for her hat-trick to seal the scoreline at 12–0.

Throughout the game, the Falcons keeper might as well have been on the beach as she never had to pull off a save throughout the 90 minutes. Not the same could be said of her counterpart who had to do overtime as she huffed and puffed throughout the match, earning herself a couple of knocks along the way.

Falcons lie second to Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies on top of the log while VUT Ladies could soon find themselves battling relegation.
