Alexandra Mall’s new 5-a-side venue, Alex5s, has started running its men’s women’s and children’s leagues as of 14 August and is now open to the public for bookings.
This enables the communities surrounding the mall to make use of the pitches and benefit from the state-of-the-art facility on their doorstep, said Selby Mogale, venue manager of Alex5s.
“We’re delighted to open this new venue and welcome the partners associated with Alex5s,” added Mogale. “We believe it’s going to be an exceptional facility for all the soccer fanatics within Alexandra and the surrounding communities.”
Alex5s provides the opportunity for the township’s 5-a-side teams to participate in various leagues and casual games against each other as they battle it out on the artificial grass courts.
The venue gives soccer players of various ages across Alexandra and its surrounds, the opportunity to compete against each other during a social league game, casual game or tournaments among friends, nurturing not only personal wellness but personal social development too, Mogale added.
He said it also enabled sports enthusiasts, regardless of their sporting ability, to play their favourite sport, with friends and colleagues, providing for great social interaction, both on and off the court.
“Football players from Alexandra now also get to enjoy the fitness and general sense of well-being that comes with being physically active, which is vital for all in today’s fast-paced environment.
“The effects of sport and physical activity in helping individuals deal with stress are well documented, and Alex5s proactively supports this concept of individual wellness.”
Alex5s will operate on weekdays from 9am to 10pm and weekends from 8.30am to 6pm.
