SuperSport fears backlash from the Buccaneers in cup final

JOBURG – The Nedbank Cup in Durban is expected to be a humdinger of a game on Saturday.

The Nedbank Cup final is set to light up the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday with loads of entertainment both on and off the field of play.

Orlando Pirates will take on the defending champions, SuperSport United, at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium, with kick-off set for 8.15pm.

This will be much of a repeat of last year’s finale in Polokwane, where SuperSport emerged victorious by 3–2. Matsatsantsa is aiming to become the first team to defend the trophy since the Nedbank sponsorship started, while the Buccaneers are looking to give their multitude of fans something to cheer about in their historic 80th year.

At stake as well will be the opportunity for the winner to play African continental football in the Confederation of African Football (Caf) Confederations Cup next year.

Off the field, there will be festivities galore for those who come in early. The activities will start at 2pm and will ensure that friends and families have memorable moments beyond the soccer pitch. Part of entertainment includes the famous fan zone, pre-match concert and what is set to be a dazzling opening ceremony.

The fan zone is made up of interactive theme parks incorporating games, youth soccer clinics and autograph opportunities, a penalty shoot-out, a Nedbank Cup photo and autograph booth, a game zone, fan face-painting, skill zone, and a Nedbank gig rig.

The pre-concert, scheduled for 5pm, will include top South African acts such as Anatii, Mobi Dixon and Just Robyn, while the half-time show with the award-winning Zakes Bantwini, promises to be nothing short of spectacular.

The opening ceremony will start at 7.40pm and will include a breathtaking array of young dancers who will celebrate their passion for art as part of Nedbank’s tribute to Youth Month.
