Astronomical win for Mighty Heroes U17 team in Map Games

ALEX – Malandela Mighty Heroes begins the defence of its U17 Map Games trophy with an astronomical win.

 

Malandela Mighty Heroes U17 team began the defence of their Maimane Alfred Phiri (Map) Games championship with a bang when they demolished Mpumalanga’s Mfanafuthi FC 12–2.

In a one-sided match played at the Altrec Sports Complex, Mighty Heroes, currently one of the most successful clubs in the township, went into the halftime break leading 6–0.

They came back into the second stanza to score another six, putting the game beyond the reach of the Mpumalanga side that could only manage to pull two back.

The astronomical win which astounded the visitors who were being urged by fans in the stands to throw in the towel to avoid an embarrassing scoreline. But the Mpumalanga boys were determined to see their fixture to the end.

Heroes astute coach Vincent Rammoni had no words when asked to analyse the game but heaped praise on his star-studded side for a job well done.

“There is nothing I can say about the game except to give accolades to my players for a job well done,” he said. “I am confident with the talent I have, the boys should be able to successfully defend the trophy.

“If they win the current tournament, they will have made history by becoming the first team to successfully defend the trophy three years in a row. It’s so close to our hearts that we’ll not let go, especially with such a magnificent start to its defence.” Rammoni is currently one of the most successful coaches in the local football association.

One of the stars of the star-studded side, Realogile High School’s Tshepang ‘Messi’ Phala who has come through the ranks from his days in the U13s, banged in a hat-trick while his high school colleague, Koketso Mampuru and another teammate, Ozil, both bagged a brace.

The big win comes despite the fact that during the off-season, the side offloaded 23 players who have all gone to greener pastures with various academies. One of those players who has found greener pastures is the immensely talented Sithuli Zulu, who has joined Alex Black Aces in the ABC Motsepe League.

“I consider this team as one of the best that I have ever assembled,” said Rammoni. “The boys want to play football non-stop.

“If I give them a rest, they come knocking on my door, pleading that we go to the training sessions.”

Rammoni is regarded as the Pep Guardiola of Alex football and the Young Master because of his young age and knowledge of the game.
