Pirates marks 80 years with kit donation to four primary schools

ALEXANDRA – Orlando Pirates marks its 80th birthday with a kit donation to four schools in Alexandra and a coaching clinic.

Orlando Pirates, in partnership with Spur Masidlale and Adidas, donated more than 150 brand new soccer kits during a recent soccer development clinic to players of Iphutheng, Bovet, Ikage and Zenzeleni primary schools.

The youngsters could not contain their excitement while receiving the kit to mark the 80th birthday of the founding of the Buccaneers club. Pirates players then spent time imparting their skills and expertise to their adoring young supporters.

Kjell Jonevret, the Buccaneers head coach said, “Soccer makes people come together and because of that it’s so important for us to visit the community who supports us.

“We are happy to be here and have fun while teaching these future stars a trick or two to add to their list of skills they are currently developing.”

Soccer development programmes and clinics such as these play a vital role in developing talent and giving communities an opportunity to garner skills that would otherwise not have had an opportunity to flourish, said Khakhi Diala, of Spur Steak Ranches group marketing.
