Sgwili Gumede, chairman of the Sport Industry Group said, “Much like our heroes Wayde van Niekerk, Caster Semenya and Quinton de Kock, who all redefined success in their sport in 2016, the Discovery Sport Industry Awards will celebrate the men, women and organisations that redefined success in our industry.”

Television personality Lunga Shabalala will be this year’s master of ceremony. Shabalala is best known for taking over as the host of the SABC1 music show, Selimathunzi after winning a countrywide presenter search, in 2011.

His journey began when he won the Represent South Africa in the Calvin Klein competition in 2010 and became the face of the men’s underwear range.

Shabalala’s extensive television career also includes commentating on the second season of the Vuzu countdown show 10 Over 10, and starring in the SABC3 reality series, The Man Cave with Janez Vermeiren.

Lunga Shabalala said, “I am very excited to be a part of this year’s Discovery Sport Industry Awards. With my passion for sport, coupled with my experience in TV and entertainment, I have no doubt that together with the Sport Industry Group, we will pull all the stops to ensure that the night, like its participants, breaks gold.”

Discovery is the headline partner of the 2017 Discovery Sport Industry Awards.
