Bluebirds Ladies have a new gem in their nest

ALEXANDRA – Lerato Williams, formerly of Soweto Fabulous Ladies is poised to set the Sasol League ablaze in the colours of Bluebirds Ladies.

Alexandra’s Bluebirds Ladies have a new gem in their nest in the form of Lerato Williams, formerly of Soweto Fabulous Ladies FC.

The nimble-footed Williams is mesmerising fans ant the opposition with her dribbling wizardry.

Birds coach, Malvin Trynos Khumalo said he spotted the abundant talent in the 21-year-old Soweto-born girl when she played for Fabulous in the year-end tournament of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association in December last year.

“I immediately fell in love with the potent skills she possesses and I said to myself this is a Bluebirds girl and I must get her. I literally ran after her soon after her team finished one of their games and proposed that she come and join Bluebirds and she never hesitated,” Khumalo said.

He set the necessary negotiations and paperwork in motion for her transfer and Williams joined the Birds in February in time for the team’s off-season preparations for the opening of the 2017 Sasol Women’s League.

Williams has fitted well into the Birds outfit like a hand in glove and has become an integral member of the team which seems destined for greater heights this season.

Williams said she started playing soccer at the tender age of 9 with an all-boys team, Too Touch FC in Jabulani, Soweto, where she lives, hence her deft and wizardry ball skills and telling tackles.

A business management student at the Parktown campus of the Central Johannesburg College, Williams completed her matric at Moletsane Secondary School in 2014 and took up a coaching job for a junior team at Memel Secondary School in the Free State before returning to Soweto to join Fabulous Ladies.

Speaking about the Birds’ upcoming game against newly-promoted Nicko Taurus Ladies Academy from the West Rand over the Easter weekend, Williams said she was looking forward to banging in some goals.

“I look forward to once more mesmerising the fans and producing a magician’s performance that will astound the new girls on the block. We’re coming back with the three points from a scoreline of 6–0,” predicted a confident Williams, who is still to receive a nickname from her teammates.
