McDonald’s assigns football legends to work with schools around South Africa

JOBURG – McDonald's South Africa appoints Khabonina Zondo as head coach of football legends to work with schools at grassroots level.

Five former football stars have been selected to work with various schools in different provinces to uplift the coaching skills of the teachers in the lead up to the provincial and national finals of the McDonald’s U14 Schools League.

Former Lamontville Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach, Khabo Zondo has been appointed as head coach who will work with various schools ahead of the tournament in October.

Zondo, who recently quit as coach of the Royal Eagles, has been roped in by McDonald’s to head a team of legends.

These legends include Doctor Khumalo, Gauteng and North West; Mark Williams, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and Western Cape; Phil Masinga, Free State and KwaZulu-Natal; Siphiwe Mkhonza, Limpopo and Mpumalanga; and Tebogo Mokena, national finals.

At the launch of the tournament, Zondo said he and his team of coaches were ready to upgrade the skills of teacher-coaches through the running of clinics and by interacting with children at district, provincial, and national level as part of the development of grassroots football in the country.
