Tovey lauds SAB skills training for coaches

JOBURG – Safa technical director Neil Tovey praises the SAB League Skills Camp for its role in the development of football.

The ongoing Confederation of African Football (Caf) C Licence course run under the SAB League Skills Camp has been lauded by the technical director of South African Football Association (Safa), Neil Tovey.

As the 10-day programme, which is host to coaches from all corners of South Africa, headed into its fourth day, Tovey took time off from his busy schedule at the Safa headquarters in Nasrec to visit participants and wish them well.

The SAB League Skills Camp is the brainchild of the SAB League which forms the country’s largest football development league played across the 52 Safa regions.

Tovey, the African Cup of Nations 1996 winning captain believed that the SAB League’s new and matured approach to football development was playing an integral part in Safa’s mandate of football development and achieving its set objectives of Vision 2022.

“Proper development of football starts with coaches at amateur level. Through such programmes, improvement in the standard of the SAB League and amateur football is inevitable and will assist in making the dreams of playing professional football possible for youngsters. All this can be achieved through such programmes,” he said.

Various coaching methods by Safa’s highly qualified coaching instructors were being shared with the coaches. The coaches were also given the experience of analysing a highly competitive 7 February match of the Premier Soccer League encounter between Kaizer Chiefs and Free State Stars at the FNB Stadium.

This will form part of the overall evaluation of the coaches whose training continues at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria.
