Rained final to be replayed today

ALEXANDRA – The kings of the Discovery Alex Schools U12 League 2016 will be crowned today.

The rained-off final of the boy’s division of the Discovery Alex Schools U12 League Cup will be replayed today at the Number 3 Square Grounds.

The final is between Skeen and Zenzeleni primary schools and was abandoned midway on 2 November when lightning and thunder preceded a storm that followed, prompting the organisers to call the match off in fear for the safety of the players and their fellow pupils, including other people who had thronged to the stadium to witness the final.

When the match was called soon after the referee blew his whistle at half time, Skeen Primary School, who are considered by many as the champions in waiting, were leading Zenzeleni 1–0 through the strike of talented youngster, Odirile Malahlela.

Discovery tournament organiser, Raymond Marutha of ForwardZone said the tournament had been rescheduled for this afternoon.

The king of Alex schools football will be crowned today when the final whistle is blown to signal the end of the game, which will be followed by the handing out of medals and the trophy to the winning team, including other medals to the Golden Boot Player of the Tournament, Midfielder of the Tournament, Defender of the Tournament, and the Keeper of the Tournament.
