Ncube hopes to inspire the next generation

JOBURG – Seasoned showjumper passes the knowledge.

Seasoned horse rider, Oscar Ncube (32), aims to pass on his experience of being a showjumper to the next generation.

Alexandra-born Ncube, who matriculated from York High School, in George Western Cape in 2000, has become one one the most sought-after horse riders in the country. He trains under the guidance of Barry and Lorette Taylor of Farnham Stables in Chartwell.

“I started riding horses when I was only seven years old,” he said.

“My mother was working for a lovely lady and she had horses on her property. I had the privilege of being taught by her and was fortunate enough to learn on her horses. My passion for showjumping started then, and soon after that, I decided that I wanted my career and future to circulate around horses.”

Ncube added that he now instructs for about 45 hours per week at Farnham and currently competes in all levels of showjumping, ranging from the young horse levels to the open grades on various horses.

The Team Nissan rider, who is currently competing on six horses, elaborated on one of his current competition horses. “Elite Rhythm (by Udokes/Rhythm of the Wind) is a six-year-old mare, very quirky and a lot of fun. She’s jumping 1.20m and she belongs to Lorette.”

Ncube added that he was normally the one who pressurized himself to perform well for the owners of the horses. “I’m actually really lucky with the owners of the horses that I ride, as they trust me and they respect the hard work that I put in as I always put in 110 per cent,” he concluded.
