The Sunflower Fund fun walk at Joburg Zoo

PARKVIEW – The Sunflower Fund will host a fun walk/run at the Johannesburg Zoo on 24 September.

Give hope to patients awaiting stem cell transplants by walking for The Sunflower Fund through Johannesburg Zoo on 24 September at 8am.

“The good news is that you don’t have to be an ultra-marathon runner. It is an easy and scenic 5km trot through the zoo with lots to see and explore as you go. What better way to start your morning,” commented The Sunflower Fund’s regional manager for Gauteng, Shelby Zimmerman.

Funds raised from the fun walk/run will enable The Sunflower Fund to create awareness, educate and recruit stem cell donors to increase the number of people registered on the South African Bone Marrow Registry.

Did you know that there is a one in 100 000 chance that a patient awaiting a stem cell transplant will find that lifesaving match? The more donors that The Sunflower Fund can add to the registry, the better the chances are of giving hope to one of these patients.

The fund pays for the tests of people joining the registry. This is fundamental to saving the lives of thousands of South Africans each year. The ethnic origin also plays a significant role in the search for a donor.Details: www.sunflowerfund.org.za
