Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Dillon Sheppard is making great progress as a coach after taking the Bidvest Wits U17 team to the final of the Future Champions.
The veteran midfielder was impressed by his team’s performances throughout the prestigious tournament, despite failing at the final hurdle to Spanish football giants, Atletico Madrid.
Sheppard said his team would learn from their mistakes and use the experience gained in the tournament for future games.
“Small mistakes cost us the game, we allowed them in the box and players did not close the ball down quickly… it’s all about development and players learn from their mistakes, and this is how they grow,” he said.
“Great experience competing against big clubs, and the players learn how to play under pressure from an early age.”
