United Stars’ U13 team dished out a bitter footballing lesson to opponents Howza De Laz in the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association.

They annihilated Howza De Laz 4-0 to lift the trophy of the Year End Tournament in the final played at the Alexandra Stadium on 12 December.

Stars scored one of the quickest goals in the history of Alex football since its formation in 1936. The champions scored in under a minute after kick-off after Koketso Mathebula scored from a free kick outside their opponent’s box. Prolific Stars striker Dakalo Morimbiwa made it 2-0 five minutes before the break. Three minutes into the second half Tiro Jele made it 3-0 and substitute Iviwe Mkhwanazi scored the fourth with his first touch of the ball. Stars’ Aphiwe Dlakadla, who dons the number six jersey, is a player to watch for the future.

Meanwhile, Ntshole Nyithana who scored two goals; Angelo Hlongwane and Tshiamo Moraka of Real Madrid’s U15 team had their names registered on the scoresheet when they beat the Gunners 4-0 to lift the Year End Tournament trophy.

In the U20 final, Black Poison, which mainly comprises players from Alex hostels, beat Alex Junior City 5-3 on penalties to bag the trophy. The teams had been level at 2-2 at the end of regulation play.

In the U17 final, a solitary goal by Grade 10 Northview High School pupil Tebatso Mokonyane of Malandela Mighty Heroes was enough to seal their victory against Three Double Seven.

In the ladies final of the tournament, Alex Ladies beat Bluebirds 1-0 to bag the trophy. Players to watch out for are Tshwarelo Digauta of Bluebirds and Noluthando Magasela of Alex Ladies.
