Disjointed Iphutheng does the job

ALEXANDRA - Two-time champions of the Discovery Alex School League, Iphutheng Primary School did the job of beating struggling Ekukhanyisweni Primary School 2-0 despite being disjointed and coupled with poor passing.

Two-time champions of the Discovery Alex School League, Iphutheng Primary School, beat struggling Ekukhanyisweni Primary School 2-0 despite being disjointed.

Choeu Popela opened the scoring for the defending champions with a powerful shot that gave Ekukhanyisweni keeper no chance, while the second goal came from Saulo Malange.

If Iphutheng had played like the champions they are, they could have easily disposed of Ekukhanyisweni, more so if their playmaker and midfielder-cum-striker, Joseph ‘Messi’ Maphuruma was at his best.

Ekukhanyisweni failed to capitalise on the poor form on the day displayed by Iphutheng as they too struggled to string passes together.

Iphutheng lies second on the log with 11 points from five games behind newcomer in the Alex football stakes, Zenzeleni Primary School, who have amassed a record 14 points from five games. In this group, Iphutheng and Zenzeleni are through to the semis while the other group is led by fellow newcomers, MC Weiler Primary School who will be joined in the semis by Dr Knak.

The semifinals will be played on 4 November.

If we go by the form book, it is most likely to be a final between MC Weiler and Zenzeleni, although perennial campaigners Dr Knak and two-time champions, Iphutheng cannot be written off.
