Fifa suspends Safa official for alleged match-fixing

JOBURG - The world football governing body, Fifa, has banned a former South African Football Association (Safa) official Lindile Kika from all football activities for six years.

The Independent Ethics Committee of Fifa, the world’s football governing body, has suspended former South African Football Association (Safa) official Lindile Kika from all football activities for the next six years.

Kika was suspended following allegations of match-fixing of the Bafana Bafana friendly games prior to the Fifa 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The adjudicatory chamber of the committee, chaired by Hans-Joachim Eckert, has banned Kika from both national and international football activities, effective immediately. The proceedings against Kika were opened in November last year and the investigation was led by chairman of the investigatory chamber of the committee, Dr Cornel Borbély, in collaboration with the Fifa Security Division.

Spokesperson for the adjudicatory chamber of the committee, Dr Marc Tenbücken, declined to comment further, saying a Fifa confidentiality clause forbids him from saying any further on the matter.
