Bluebirds Ladies Football Club in third successive season

ALEXANDRA - Alexandra’s Bluebirds Ladies Football Club will fly high in the Sasol Women’s League for a third successive season.

This follows their 11-0 annihilation of the whipping girls of the Sasol League, Randburg side Crusaders Ladies, last weekend at St Stithians College.

The Birds managed to bag the three points they needed to ensure their third season in the league following their promotion from the Absa Women’s League two seasons ago.

Birds’ forwards had a field day with Nyatama Mnguni scoring four, Paulette Coglan bagging a hat trick, Mpho Rammala grabbing a brace, and Natasha Goge and Realogile School matric pupil Zingawe Phakathi completing the rout.

“I am delighted that my girls did the job and we managed to get the insurance of the three points we needed to ensure our survival in the league,” said Bluebirds coach Malvin Khumalo.

“Now we can chase the cherry on top, which is the possibility of finishing the season in fourth spot if we can win the remaining two games, including a possible replay of the cancelled match with the whipping girls once more.”

On 2 August, the Birds are set to entertain the girls from the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). Buoyed by their impressive outing last week, Khumalo said their chances of coming out of this home clash with a win were quite good.

“My girls are in high spirits and if they can carry this to the weekend game, I am confident we can beat a TUT side that has been a bit sluggish of late. I have no injuries and all my players are fully fit,” said an exuberant Khumalo.
