The highly anticipated Wafa Wafa tournament will see the top eight battle it out in the most lucrative cup competition on the African continent, with the winning team set to pocket a whopping R8 million.

Kaizer Chiefs will begin their defence of their title at the FNB Stadium where Steve Kompela will face his former team Maritzburg United.

Kompela, who has recently taken the reins at Chiefs, was confident that his team would be ready when the tournament kicks off on 4 August.

“It is going to be a tricky one, facing my old team won’t be easy, they have been hard at work also but we are ready for any eventuality,” said Kompela.

PSL CEO Brand de Villiers said, “This year’s edition of the MTN8 will set the tone for what we hope will be an exciting season. The MTN8 broke a new South African record when it sold more than 40 000 tickets for the MTN8 final in just over two hours.”

  • Bidvest Wits vs Supersport United, Bidvest Stadium, 7.30pm
  • Orlando Pirates vs Ajax Cape Town. Orlando Stadium, 7.30pm

Wednesday, 5 August:

  • Mamelodi Sundowns vs Bloemfontein Celtic, Lucas Moripe Staduim, 7.30pm
  • Kaizer Chiefs vs Maritzburg United, FNB Stadium, 7.30pm
