Erasmus not joining Zamalek, says Pirates

JOBURG - Orlando Pirates has denied what is it called rumours about its star striker, Kermit Erasmus being set to join Egyptian giants, Zamalek.

Orlando Pirates recently denied rumours about its star striker, Kermit Erasmus, being set to join Egyptian giants, Zamalek.

Rumours have been flying in media circles over the last couple of days about Pirates accepting an offer from Egyptian Premier League side Zamalek SC for the services of Erasmus.

“Orlando Pirates would like to put it on record that there has been no official communication between the club and Zamalek about the services of Erasmus. Erasmus is currently in camp undergoing pre-season training with the rest of the squad in Nelspruit,” said a statement from Pirates.

Zamalek is in the same group as Pirates in the Confederations of African Football Confederations Cup. The two met on 11 July in Nelspruit at the Mbombela Stadium and Pirates were beaten 2-1.

They are still to meet in the second encounter in Egypt later in August. The Soweto giants’ next match in the cup is up against Tunisian giants, CS Sfaxien in Tunisia on 26 July.
