Alex coaches hone their skills

The Alexandra North Rand Local Football Association (ANLFA) held a five day coaching course conducted by the Royal Netherlands Football Association.

The Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association held a five-day coaching course conducted by the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB).

The course saw 35 local football coaches take part and all participants were issued with certificates at the end of the course. The workshop focused on youth development through football, with emphasis on practical and technical elements of the game.

The five day course was sponsored by Forwardzone in partnership with the Alexandra football association, with the aim of improving the standard of coaching in Alexandra.

Nico Labohm, the KNVB instructor who conducted the workshop said he was impressed with the quality of coaches but also alluded to the fact that more work still needed to be done.

“I have seen that some of the coaches are on the right track as they have the passion for coaching,” he said. “They still need help on how to plan their coaching sessions, and how to organise their teams before the game.”

Eric Paul, the new assistant technical director of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association said the coaches were going to use the knowledge gained from the course to improve the game.

“I believe that all the coaches acquired the knowledge you gave and they will pass it on to their players so we can make Alex football much better and more competitive,” he said.

The president of Alex football, Maisha Molepo, applauded the great work and commitment the coaches showed for the entire week of the course, and encouraged them to utilise the knowledge gained for the betterment of their players and the game.

Speaking before handing out the certificates, Molepo said, “We are here as the football association to support you and we want to see change in the field of play with the skills that you have gained from this course.”
