‘The poor always suffer the most’

ALEXANDRA - The captain of Bluebirds Ladies Football Club, Nthabiseng Ramasokotla believes that the cancellation of their Sasol League game against the Crusaders was the victimisation of teams which lack resources.

Ramasokotla and her teammate, Sisipho Samente were speaking to Alex News after the referee cancelled the game due to a water-logged pitch caused by leaking underground sprinklers.

“We believe the visitors [Crusaders] have found a good enough excuse not to endure the embarrassing score lines of the 20s they have been suffering since the league started.

“This is not the first time teams from previously white areas have done this to us. We feel we’re being victimised because we’re a poorly-resourced team from Alexandra and everybody thinks they can run roughshod over us,” Ramasokotla said.

Samente demanded respect for under-resourced teams.

“We’re also human and if we can play under these conditions, what stops them. They must know that these facilities are not under our control and if someone, somewhere, does not play his or her part, the poor always suffer the most,” she said.
