Mofolo longs for a present for Alex fans

ALEXANDRA - If Alex United supporters’ co-ordinator Khotso Mofolo had his way, he would give the Hope City Giants’ faithful supporters a present.

This gift would be in the form of United being able to play their last game of the season against arch-rivals African All Stars at Alexandra Stadium, instead of Balfour Park Stadium.

“If I had my way, I would take the last game of the season to ‘Gomora’ – the nickname of Alexandra – to be played at the slaughterhouse, Alexandra Stadium,” Mofolo said.

United are currently playing all their home matches at the nearby Balfour Park Stadium due to renovations being undertaken by the City of Johannesburg at the Alexandra Stadium.

He was talking to Alex News after the team’s emphatic 6-2 win over FC Kathorus. “We are on a roll,” he said. “The team is gelling well and playing like a well-oiled machine.

“Come what may I fancy our chances of playing in the National First Division next season. We’re going to fight with all we have to ensure Alexandra has a team in that division, which is a precursor to the prestigious Premier Soccer League.”

He thanked the community of Alexandra for standing by the team through thick and thin. “How much I wish I could give you the present to watch this well-oiled machine at its best.”

Meanwhile, Edward Chauke, the number one supporter of the Hope City Giants said he was delighted with the emphatic win against FC Kathorus as it continued to pave the way for the team’s ascendancy to the National First Division.

“I long for the day that Alexandra will be represented, not just in the national First Division, but the ultimate elite division itself.”
