Baxter, Lamola end season on a high with accolades

JOBURG - Premier Soccer League championship-winning Kaizer Chiefs head coach Stuart Baxter has not just ended the season off on a high note for his club, but also for himself.

Baxter and Free State side Bloemfontein Celtic striker Lerato Lamola have scooped the final Absa Premiership monthly awards by claiming the Coach and Player of the Month for April and May respectively.

Baxter’s team, who were consistent throughout the 2014/2015 campaign, picked up another four wins and conceded only one goal as they went unbeaten during the latest voting period (this was before their loss to Bidvest Wits on 5 May).

Amakhosi also showed discipline, highlighting Baxter’s leadership skills, to retain their intensity as they completed a dominant run to the league title. Lamola, meanwhile, scored crucial goals for Celtic, helping them put up a fight in the top half of the Absa Premiership table.

A hard-working player, the judges felt he had stood out by combining well with his teammates, creating chances and using his pace to keep defensive opposition units on their toes.

As sponsors of the top-flight league, Absa has recognised Baxter and Lamola for the roles they have played in their respective teams’ performances as they continue to prosper at the highest level of the domestic game.
