Boy’s broken leg prompts First Aid course for Alex clubs

ALEXANDRA - The technical director of Alex football, Mxolisi Mngomezulu has organised a First Aid training course for club coaches, chairmen and officials.

The technical director of Alex football, Mxolisi Mngomezulu, has organised a First Aid training course for club coaches, chairmen and officials.

This is meant to empower the staff of the clubs, who are directly involved with the players on the field, with skills to enable them to deal with any situation in the wake of any emergency. The course was prompted by the recent injury of Rainbow Stars player, Mandilakhe Mgijimi, who fractured his leg in the U17 quarter final game of the Ntate Molepo Tournament on 21 March against Alex Kings United at the Altrek Stadium in Eastbank.

Mgijimi is currently recovering at Edenvale General Hospital following an operation. “It is this incident that sparked my desire, along with Lusanda Jika of United Stars, to organise a First Aid course for all the officials of our clubs in order to equip them with the right tools to deal with any emergency on the field,” said Mngomezulu in an interview with Alex News.

The four-hour per day course will run for three days, starting from 28 to 30 April at the boardroom of the Ntate Molepo offices of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association. The course will be conducted by staff of the City of Johannesburg’s Emergency Management Services who are stationed at the Be-Safe Centre at the corner of 8th Avenue and Alfred Nzo Street.

On completion of the course, Mngomezulu said the staff will then be awarded an attendance certificate. “We hope the course will make them competent enough to deal with the various emergency situations which tend to arise in football matches.
