United skipper hopes the job will be done tomorrow

JOBURG - Alexandra United skipper, Kgomotso Koena said his team mates were mentally ready for tomorrow's game against Doveyton side Lerumo United at Balfour Park Stadium.

Alexandra United skipper, Kgomotso Koena said his teammates are mentally ready for tomorrow’s game against Daveyton side Lerumo United at Balfour Park Stadium.

Speaking after one of their many training sessions, KG, as he is popularly known among his teammates, said the mood was good and hyper and everybody was looking forward to a good game in this ABC Motsepe League encounter.

“We have been training hard all week in preparation for this game and I hope the results will show for the amount of work we have put in training,” said the central defender, who added that he hopes the team will get the job done come Saturday.

Hope City Giants coach Tracy Lee-Pepper reported no injuries in the team, with the exception of speedy right winger, Mduduzi Mabizela who has been nursing an injury now for months, but hopes he will be fit and ready in a few weeks from now.

“We have a squad of 35 players, and all of them are giving 100 percent in training, making it a headache and nightmare to select the team – but it’s a good headache to work with. The team also welcomes back Chadley Jacobs after serving a suspension, and he is expected to be in the line-up for tomorrow’s game.

Another player likely to make the starting line-up tomorrow is Skates Mbatha, one of the best holding midfielders in the team with a knack for scoring goals too.

“I am going to field an attack-minded team and each game now will be treated like a cup final,” said Pepper in reference to the remaining nine games before the end of the season.

United are fourth on the log with 41 points from 19 games, with two games in hand compared to the top three. Leading the pack is African All Stars with 47 points from 21 games, followed by JDR Stars with 43, and third-placed Munsieville Stars with 42 points from the same number of games as the log leader.

Still holding fort at the bottom of the log is North West University’s Vaal campus team, which has nine points from 19 games, having lost a good 12 matches and drawn six. The only match they won was their recent clash against United.
