Ntate Molepo finals moved to new date

ALEXANDRA - The football spectacle in the form of the finals of the Ntate Molepo Tournament has been moved to a new date on 26 April.

The football spectacle in the form of the finals of the Ntate Molepo Tournament has been moved to a new date on 26 April.

This is to allow the City of Johannesburg time to organise the cutting of the grass at the Alexandra Stadium, which is the venue of the finals that were earlier scheduled for 11 and 12 April, said Mafika Morajane, secretary general of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association.

Morajane said the association together with ABC Motsepe League local side, Alex United, had clubbed together and bought top soil, grass seed and manure which were spread on the grounds to help rejuvenate the grass on the pitch.

More than R30 000 was spent on the project and with the recent rains that were experienced in Gauteng, Morajane said the grass grew too quickly and will be unplayable on the weekend of 11 and 12 April.

Morajane said they would soon engage the City of Johannesburg to try and work out a schedule for the cutting of the grass to ensure it was ready for the new date of the finals of the Molepo tournament on 26 April.

He said they still urge the people of Alexandra to come in their numbers to witness this football spectacle.
