The inaugural MultiChoice Diski Challenge final promises to be a great spectacle for fans as both teams will be going all out to win this prestigious trophy.

Launched on 12 August last year, the tournament has seen 62 games played between all 16 of the Premier Soccer League Reserve League teams with a total of 181 goals being scored.

At a press conference at the Parktown offices of the premier league, coaches Sly Mosala of the University of Pretoria, and Alex Bapela of Sundowns were full of praise for their respective players, saying they had come on a long journey to reach the final.

On their way to the final, Pretoria’s AmaTuks beat three of the tournament’s favourites Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United, the latter on penalties to book their spot in the final.

AmaTuks’ Mosala said, “I didn’t think we were going to make it this far, as we battled at the initial stages, but fought hard to reach the final. It’s been an unbelievable journey and I would like to thank the boys for making this far.”

Sundowns’ Bapela disputed the favourites tag being attached to his team. “I think they [AmaTuks] are the favourites as they have beaten tough teams on their road to the final.” He said for the final his team had lost four of its players to the U20 national team, and also had two injuries to contend with.

The third and fourth place play-offs between Mpumalanga Black Aces and SuperSport United will kick off at 10am, with the final scheduled for 12pm. Besides a coveted trophy and medals, an eight-day trip to Holland awaits the champions.
