Minnows could make a name in Nedbank Cup

JOBURG - Tickets have gone on sale for the Nedbank Cup last 32 stage tournament which begins in seven days time.

Tickets have gone on sale for the Nedbank Cup’s last 32 round which begins on 18 February.

There will be an opportunity for the minnows left in the cup to make a name for themselves. Some of the new faces in this year’s Nedbank Cup include Western Cape’s The Magic Football Club, which is owned by former Bafana Bafana striker George Dearnaley, Eastern Cape’s Tornado FC, Phiva Young Stars from Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu Natal’s Natal United and Edu Sport from Gauteng.

Edu Sport and Tornado face daunting tasks as they will come up against the two Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates respectively. Magic FC on the other hand, will also have a tough journey to Rustenburg to play against Platinum Stars, a side that has become to be known as the new ‘Cup Kings’ after their proven record in cup competitions.

There are some familiar names such as Upington’s Mainstay United, Bellevue Winners Park and Roses United which are also in the mix. They will be joined by eight National First Division clubs and the 16 Premier Division clubs to make the last 32.
