‘Golden hands and feet’ earn coach and player awards

In-form University of Pretoria striker Thabo Mnyamane and Polokwane City coach Kosta Papic have been named Absa Premiership Player and Coach of the Month respectively.

This was for their outstanding efforts during November and December last year.

Mnyamane, who has formed a solid partnership up front for AmaTuks with Uganda international Geofrey Masa, played a key role in his team’s impressive results ahead of the mid-season break.

The 22-year-old forward scored five goals in eight matches to help AmaTuks claw their way to 12th place as they lifted themselves from the relegation zone.

Papic made an immediate impact after being appointed Polokwane head coach in early October last year. The Serbian guided his squad to five wins from their eight fixtures as they soared to sixth place in the league standings.

Asked about his recipe for turning what he touches into gold, Papic seemingly had none to offer. “I just do my job as usual and if the players respond positively we get the results, that’s all. There is nothing which I can say I have done differently at all.”

Mnyamane ascribed his ‘golden feet’ to contributions from his teammates and coach. “I owe my success to both my teammates and the coach, without whom I would not be standing here today to receive this award. I don’t play alone, we play as a collective with instructions from our coach.”
