Alex teams vie for promotion
Promotion beckons for either Gauteng Football Club or Moroka Lions Football Club into the South African Football Association (Safa) Johannesburg Promotional League
Both teams are neck and neck in the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association (ANFLA) Promotional League senior division . Gauteng tops the league with 74 points from 26 games.
Moroka has 73 points from the same number of games. Whichever team gains promotion they will join fellow Alexandra clubs, TDS, Rainbow Stars, Roaring Bombers and Blue Aces in the Safa Johannesburg Promotional League.
Another Alex team, Alex Liverpool, which has been playing in the Safa Johannesburg Promotional League for the past three years has been relegated and will play in the ANLFA Promotional League in Alex.
According to the secretary general of Alex football, Mafika Morajane, the ANFLA Promtional League is a promotion-only league and no team gets relegated. Only one team is promoted to the next league level with the ultimate goal of playing in the prestigious Premier Soccer League. To get there teams have to climb up the ladder and win the Safa South African Breweries League, popularly known as the SAB League, then the newly-formed ABC Motsepe League and finally the National First Division League.
