The 2014/2015 football season will soon get underway and local football will once again be the centre of attraction.

However, the ball never stopped rolling for the Nedbank Ke Yona Team stars.

The blended team of young and middle aged men from all walks of life has been hard at work in preparation for their match against the 2014 Nedbank Cup Champions, Orlando Pirates.

Not only is the team looking forward to playing the reigning Nedbank Cup Champions, Orlando Pirates, the team is also living the dream of being led by newly appointed Bafana Bafana coach, Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba.

The squad is gradually taking shape thanks to seasoned coaches such as Mashaba, former Golden Arrows coach, Khabo Zondo, former Platinum Stars and Orlando Pirates coach, Owen Da Gama, and Mike Mangena who is regarded as one of the country’s legendary strikers.

With four friendly matches against Supersport United, Bidvest Wits, University of Pretoria and United FC under their belts, the team is gelling well and will be ready to face one of the biggest clubs in South African football.

Mashaba is confident of a positive result and is looking forward to leading the team to victory. “With just a few technical aspects to be sharpened, we are sure to give Orlando Pirates a good run for their money come the day of the match,” said Mashaba.

Ke Yona Team member, Luthando Sixhaso, a 20-year-old goalkeeper from Fish Hoek is raring to put on his gloves and come up against Pirates’ number one, Senzo Meyiwa. The Ke Yona Team shot stopper said playing against such a top side at one of the best stadiums in the country will be a memory he will cherish for the rest of his life.

“I have always watched top PSL clubs playing at this legendary stadium and it is still hard to believe that I will be standing in between the sticks at the very stadium that I watch at home on TV.

“I am also looking forward to meeting Pirates players, but the ultimate achievement for me would be to keep a clean sheet against the Nedbank Cup champions,” said Sixhaso.
