Sacred Heart boy to samba at Sundowns

JOBURG - Bafana Bafana could soon have its own Lionel Messi in the form of Zaheen Casey, a Grade 5 pupil at Sacred Heart College, was selected to join the U13 Soccer Academy at Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club.

Bafana Bafana could soon have its own Lionel Messi in the form of Zaheen Casey.

Casey is a Grade 5 pupil at Sacred Heart College and was selected to join the U13 soccer academy at Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club.

He has shown an interest in soccer from the time he could walk. While other children played games and watched television, he was always outside with a soccer ball. Casey was invited to trials by ex-Bafana and Sundowns footballer, Lovers Mohlala.

Mohlala saw the young soccer player in a league match and instantly saw potential. The young Casey has a strict and structured training routine which runs from Monday to Friday every week.

“Zaheen is a naturally skilful and a talented football player with the potential to play at the highest level in the future,” said Andre van der Merwe, head of the sports department at Sacred Heart College.

“The fact that he can play with both his feet equally well sets him apart from the other boys in his age group. With discipline, commitment and the right guidance he can become South Africa’s Lionel Messi.”
