United still leads the pack in Safa log

ALEXANDRA - Alex United still tops the South African Football Association's Safa Second Division League log with 44 points from 20 games following their 2-1 win over Randfontein side Trabzon.

Alex United has opened a four-point lead at the top of the South African Football Association’s Safa Second Division League log with 47 points from 21 games following their 2-1 win over Randfontein side Trabzon and a slender 1-0 win over Soweto Panthers.

The Trabzon game was played at Balfour Park Stadium and saw the two teams go to the half-time break level on goals at 1-1. The United goal was scored by Kwanele ‘Kwanza’ Nkosi.

In the 75th minute, Nkosi was at it again, scoring his second of the match and what turned out to be the winning goal.

In the Soweto Panthers game which was played at the Nike Sports Centre in Pimville, Soweto, United won 1-0. Its closest rivals, Highlands Park and Diphiri FC both have 43 points from 21 games. The fight for promotion to the National First Division is still wide open with many games remaining.

United official Gregory Baloyi pointed out that the club will play all their remaining home games at Balfour Park Stadium due to the current renovations of Alexandra Stadium, which is expected to be back in action in September.
