United demolishes Stars

ALEXANDRA - 'Hope City Giants', as Alex United is affectionately known in the country's oldest township of Alexandra, demolished Soweto rivals LMP Stars 4-0.

Hope City Giants, as Alex United is affectionately known demolished Soweto rivals LMP Stars 4-0.

It was a one-sided match played at United’s home ground, Alexandra Stadium, in which United’s keeper did not have to make a single save.

Though played in wet and slippery conditions, United made the most of the chances that came their way and banged in the goals.

First to register his name on the score sheet in the first half was Samukelo ‘Bin Ladin’ Nkosi and then Mduduzi ‘Mabi’ Mabitsela. Nkosi registered his second in the second half, with Katlego ‘Small Dynamite’ Manyama netting the fourth goal.

Nkosi could have easily made the score line 5-0. He was put through and with only the keeper to beat, he was fouled from behind and the referee duly awarded a penalty. Up stepped Sabelo ‘Professor’ Mayisela to take the penalty kick but he hit the upright and the ball came back into play only for Stars to clear.

“The score is not a true reflection of the game as our goalkeeper did not make even a single save in the entire game,” said club director Nick Nicolaou “He was somewhere cruising on a holiday while his team-mates played the soccer.”

United now have a six-point clear lead on top of the log ahead of second-placed Diphiri.

United’s next match is against Yebo Yes at the Alexandra Stadium at 7pm on 14 March as they kick-off the second half of the season. Nicolalou has again invited the community of Alexandra to come in their numbers to the stadium to witness entertaining football at its best.
