United in tricky away game to Highlands Park

ALEXANDRA - Alexandra United, which has maintained its unbeaten record with a 0-0 draw against African All Stars on 21 February, has a tricky away game to Highlands Park.

This game will be played on 1 March in Modderfontein and Alex United club director Nick Nicolaou said if they win this game, they could put their feet firmly on the road to promotion next season.

The African All Stars game was played before a full house at the Alexandra Stadium and Nicolaou paid his gratitude to the people of Alexandra for coming out in their numbers to support the team.

“We missed two glorious scoring opportunities in the half which could have easily sealed a victory for us,” said Nicolaou, who was disappointed that the referee red-carded their articulate midfielder, Mlungisi Mbujana for apparent swearing.

Both chances of the first half fell to United’s Katlego ‘Skates’ Mbatha. His first attempt was straight at the keeper and his second was cleared off the line. “We were so unlucky not to collect all the three points as we could have easily wrapped up the game in the first half,” said Nicolaou.

For their trip to Modderfontein, Nicolaou said they would provide free transport for supporters. It will leave the Alexandra Stadium at 11.30am on 1 March.
