Alex cricket boys for Lenasia tournament

ALEXANDRA - The Alexandra Cricket Club will be sending a team of U13 and U15 boys to the Abu Asvat Tournament in Lenansia.

The reconstituted Alexandra Cricket Club will be sending 26 cricketers from their U13 and U15 boys to take part in the annual Abu Asvat Tournament in Lenasia.

The tournament kicks off on the weekend of 7 and 8 September. The club’s public relations officer Jason Maswanganyi said, “We believe the U15 team stands a better chance to win the tournament while the U13 team will be there mainly for us to gauge the standard of our U11 and U12 boys who graduate into that team.”

Maswanganyi said the tournament was a boys event, but they would be taking a couple of girls with the U15 team as a learning curve for them.

The children come from a number of schools in Alexandra, with the majority of the U13 players coming from Skeen Primary School. The majority of the U15 school cricketers come from Eastbank High School.

“We are taking teams of thirteen per age group to the tournament, and they will be coached by Oswald Khubayi and Felix Vilakazi,” Maswanganyi said.
