Gabriel Madu scores a ‘beast’ of goals in Alex league

Alexandra's Gabriel ‘Beast’ Madu harbours dreams of one day playing in the biggest football leagues of the world.

The sky could certainly be the sole limiting factor as a bright future appears to lie ahead for Alexandra’s gangling ace goal poacher Gabriel ‘Beast’ Madu.

The ’Beast’ will ply his trade now in the colours of JBM FC, another Alex outfit that is in the Safa Johannesburg Men’s Regional League after they secured his services from Amajananda at the end of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association Promotional League on August 27 with the finals of Top 8 games.

Madu (20) was bestowed with the Golden Boot Award for scoring a massive total of 44 goals in the just-ended LFA promotional league. This feat has eluded many a striker in the professional league of the DStv Premiership where they only manage a little less than half of his 44-goal tally every season.

Born in Tsutsumani in 2003, he attended Skeen Primary School before he matriculated at East Bank High School last year. He is the second born of seven children, five boys and two girls.
The eldest is a girl and their father passed away in 2015. He scored 46 goals, but two goals had to be deducted from matches that were nullified by LFA Disciplinary Committee.

Madu started playing football at a tender age in the U10 division in 2013 with Agent Zero FC of Tumelo ‘Agent Zero’ Shai for a year and moved to Super Stars for four years before moving on to Alex Royal Tigers in 2018 and later in 2020 moved to Black Poison in Safa Johannesburg Men’s Regional League.

“This is where I met coach Wiseman Nkabini and I seriously started banging the goals and when the coach moved to Amajananda in the LFA promotional league, he moved with me. Before he left Amajananda for Destiny College FC in Mpumalanga, he recommended me to JBM where I have signed on the dotted line for them for 2023/24 season that kicks off later in the year,” the ‘Beast’ said.

The ’Beast’ harbours ambitions of playing in the biggest leagues in Africa and the world and has always envied Lionel Messi, Dedier Drogba and Peter Shalulile in the local league though he is a fan of Orlando Pirates and Manchester City in the English Premier League. Beast loves Man City’s lanky Erling Haaland and Victor Osman of Napoli.

“I keep and constantly watch their videos to see how they play and move in the field and always want to emulate them and position myself like them in the field and bang the goals as they do… and this has paid off with 46-2 goals from the DC.
“If I can keep improving my game and banging the goals, I believe the sky is the limit for my footballing career,” said the ‘Beast’ as football seems to run in the veins of the boys in the family as his younger brothers are also into the soccer game.
