Alex Arsenal City FC to wait longer for DC verdict

Alex Arsenal City FC finally had its day with the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association's Disciplinary Committee on June 14 and the outcome is still to be delivered.

Alex Arsenal City FC, finally had its day with the Disciplinary Committee of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association on June 14, but may only hear the verdict of its case on July 6.

This is according to the LFA secretary general Malvin Khumalo, who said because of the busy schedule of the DC chair Malesela Ngoasheng, the committee can only meet once a week to hear matters and that is every Thursday.

The verdict may be pronounced on Monday or Tuesday depending on how quickly Arsenal City will file the outstanding documents.
Being a practising lawyer, Khumalo said Ngoasheng had a busy schedule but had agreed to assist the LFA on a pro-bono basis and that the LFA, which has been struggling to put together a disciplinary committee for some time, had no choice but to accommodate the schedule of the current chairperson.

“We wanted somebody with a legal background to ensure the matters are properly dealt with within the legal framework as provided by the LFA constitution, and Ngoasheng is that person,” Khumalo said.

The other two members of the three-person DC are Sizakele Mavuso, a former LFA Competitions Committee member and Billy Monothoka, a former Fifa referee. “The three-person committee has the right mix of someone with the legal background, another with extensive knowledge of the LFA administration, and the third with a refereeing background to capacitate the DC team.

As Arsenal City pleaded guilty to the charge and showed some measure of remorse by also expelling from the club the pair of players involved in the fistfight, Khumalo said the DC had requested information related to the expulsion so it can be in the judgment and used as a mitigating factor.

“Once the verdict is handed down, the LFA will allow for a seven-day cooling period in case the club may want to appeal the decision but if that cooling period lapses, it will be assumed the verdict sticks,” Khumalo said.

Arsenal City has been in the dog box with the Alexandra LFA following a fistfight during its match on April 1 at the Totalsports Alex SafeHub against Amajananda FC in the LFA’s Promotional League which led to the abandonment of the game as the referee feared for the safety of all those at the stadium.

When the match was called off, Amajananda was leading 3–1. Amajananda has returned to the league after it was relegated from the Johannesburg Men’s Regional League in its maiden season last year.
