Alex runners and fitness enthusiasts expected to flood township streets on March 21

The Run Alex Athletics Club will launch its inaugural Find Your Fit Fun Run road race on March 21.

A full house of runners and fitness fanatics are expected on the day and motorists are requested to exercise caution as road closures will be necessary.

Race head of marketing for the club Siphiwe Nkosi said their event planning and preparations are on schedule. Their plans were presented to the Joint Operations Committee (JOC) of the City of Johannesburg which comprises the SAPS, Emergency Management Services and JMPD.
Communication channels with the community and other stakeholders on road closures have been intensified.

Nkosi said roads such as John Brand, Hoffmeyr and Roosevelt will be closed off on the morning of the race and motorists are urged to use alternative routes.
Alexandra has not had a race of this magnitude for close to a decade and Nkosi said once they reach 1 000 participants, registrations will be closed.

With less than a month to go, they expect online registrations at www.runalex.co.za to close on March 15 and manual registrations every Saturday at Alex Plaza from 10:00 to 13:00 to close two days before the race.

The flow of traffic within the township on the day will be affected between 06:30 and 08:30.
