Commemorative jerseys to wipe off fans’ tears

ALEXANDRA – Castle Lager releases commemorative jerseys to console rugby fans that cannot go to stadiums.

Castle Lager launched a commemorative supporters jersey for the Boks versus the British and Irish Lions series.
The release comes just as the British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa, which takes place every 12 years, kicked off on July 3.

The Castle Lager Lions Series has partnered with the South African National Blood Service (Sanbs) under the #InOurBlood banner, which aims to encourage citizens to donate blood and boost the dwindling supplies of the critical commodity in saving lives.

The jersey keeps the much-loved green and gold and combines it with a ground-breaking unique shade of red, created by the South African National Blood Service.

Castle Lager and Sanbs researched what South Africa’s blood looked like across the country and formulated this unique shade that shows what is #InOurBlood, which is this year’s campaign theme for the #CastleLionsSeries.

In partnership with Sanbs, the brand urges supporters to channel their love of rugby and donate blood during this time when the country needs it the most, Castle Lager brand director Kudzi Mathabire said.

Mathabire added that while the Lions Series was undoubtedly one of the most highly-anticipated events on the sporting calendar, there was great disappointment that the public couldn’y celebrate the nation’s best together.

“We encourage everyone to comply with the government’s regulations by staying at home and celebrate the series in their new jerseys, and come together – virtually – for the love of rugby. With these jerseys, we can fly our colours proudly as a nation while we back our boys in green and gold from our homes,” Mathabire added.

“While supporting our team is important, it is even more important to keep ourselves and our fellow South Africans safe, hence we’ll be wearing our jerseys at home during the series and donating blood to help relieve the pressure on the health system.”

The Castle Lager Lions Series kicked off at the Emirates Stadium on July 3 and fans can witness the games live on SuperSport.
