Springboks make short work of Namibia

TOYOTA – South Africa meet expectations with a thumping win over Namibia.

The Springboks have all but knocked out Africa’s only other team in the Rugby World Cup when they beat Namibia 57–3 in their pool B match at City of Toyota Stadium on 28 September.

Springbok forward, Lood de Jager was named man of the match.

Very few would have given the world’s 23rd ranked Namibia much chance against fourth-ranked South Africa, and the Springbok forwards were good enough in their defence to ensure there would be no upset.

This despite a number of handling mistakes on the part of the favourites, especially in the first half.

After New Zealand beat South Africa 23–13, Italy beat Namibia 47–22 and Italy beat Canada 48–7, the result leaves pool B exactly the way pundits expected it to go: With South Africa and New Zealand all but decided to progress to the knock-out stage.

The Springboks next take on Italy on 4 October. Italy has only won one match against the Springboks in 14 games. That win came on November 26, when Italy won 20–18 in Florence.
