Football club to enter Alex league

NORWOOD – The team is open for registration of new players with talent who want to explore their footballing skills.

Norwood Young Stars Football Club will soon be registering to play in the Alexandra Local Football League.

The girls-only team, which only formed last year, now comprises of about 15 girls and the founder and owner, Venitta Masisi, said they have started to recruit more players to beef up their squad.

According to Masisi, they will be registering in the league soon to enable them to participate when the competition starts later in January.

Masisi is delighted that the team will now be playing official games rather than the friendlies they used to play at Norwood Park.

“We’ve been playing only friendly games during our community and social events but now we have decided to register the team to play top-flight football,” explained Masisi.

“The team is showing great potential and it has good support from the community and parents.

“Some of the girls we have, when they started, they never even kicked a football before but now they have improved and I have confidence in them.”

Masisi added that they have launched their recruitment drive and have sent registration forms to local colleges.

She cited Liberty College in Bramley as one of the first institutions she approached looking for players.

“We have a number of young ladies at the college who have shown interest and we will be recruiting them and explore their talent.

“I’m really excited and looking forward to the team and we encourage all in our community to support them, including their parents.”

Interested young girls who wish to join the team are encouraged to contact Masisi.
