Prize purse for FNB Joburg 10k City Run

JOHANNESBURG – Run through the city and explore its sites.

Runners will receive a big incentive if they participate in the upcoming FNB Joburg 10k City Run.

The organisers have announced an impressive prize purse of R190 000 for the winners of the inaugural event that will see entrants exploring their city on 24 September.

“The FNB Joburg 10k City Run is about the experience of 10 000 runners running through the streets of Johannesburg exploring their city,” said Michael Meyer, managing director of Stillwater Sports.

“Another important element is the inspirational element which is brought to the event by the world-class runners who we have in South Africa, Africa and from around the world. In order to attract the best runners, we have set a high prize purse.”

The open men’s and women’s winners will each take home a whopping R20 000, while prize money has also been allocated to age group winners.

Runners in Cape Town and Johannesburg will earn a combined total of more than R500 000 in prize money and incentives at the two iconic sister events comprising the FNB Joburg 10k City Run set to take place in September and the FNB Cape Town 12 One Run set for May next year.

“It is very exciting for runners and spectators alike to have these world-class champions competing on the day. We are thankful to our sponsors for their support, without which the prize purse would not be possible,” Meyer said.

The race is not intended only for the best runners on the continent, but also for those people just looking to get in some exercise for the day or wanting to take a walk through Johannesburg and admire the city.

In addition, taking part in the race means that participants will support two deserving charities including the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation and the Johannesburg SPCA, as well as being treated to the sounds of folk band, Rubber Duc at the finish line.
