It’s that time of the year when we trek long distances to get to congregate with family and close friends over the festive season.
What would be merry and happy about the festive season without family and very close friends? It is for this reason that we remove ourselves from the hustle and bustle of the City of Gold and opt for serenity and tranquillity.
For me, especially, the mountainous bundus of KwaZulu-Natal is where you can pick up the sound of a needle falling down. For me, it is the best space for winding down and getting away from all the misdemeanours and anomalies that have happened every minute, hour and day in the past 12 months.
I find it the most healing as I only hear the sounds of the birds and those of my cows coming home to be milked and to be with their little ones who they last saw the previous night. I hold this kind of peace and tranquillity dearly and would not trade it for anything under the sun – not even for 30 pieces of silver that saw Jesus being crucified for.
With all that said and done, let me take to this electronic and paper podium to bark my own wishes to my fans, browsers and readers of my blog, the alexnews.co.za, and not forgetting the print version. To you all, who have put up with me every week for the past 12 months, I say may God bless you the most, for not deciding to knock me down for my hogwash about some of you and your shenanigans, using one of the most potent of weapons, the pen.
You know, as our erstwhile and honourable Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Mpilo Tutu once said, the truth hurts. I want to take it a step further and say the truth hurts but it must be told at all costs, and I believe this is what I have been doing every week for the past 12 months.
It is not for self and personal aggrandisement that I do this, but for the sake of our future and that of the country’s generations to come.
It is an endeavour, as part of the fourth estate of our country, to keep our power-drunk friends on the straight and narrow, as the temptation to take forbidden money is very high and alluring.
Before some of them empty the State coffers, they need a constant reminder to stay on the fine and disappearing line of honesty and integrity. But we also need to boost their faith and confidence from time to time so they can ward off the temptation to help themselves to what doesn’t belong to them, but to all of us.
Folks, before I spew more and unintended hogwash, goodbye and see you in the new year. I only meant to say, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
