Chiefs penalised for spectator violence against Downs

Spectator violence at FNB Stadium on September 28, plus the fine imposed, plus the fine they still have outstanding, makes Kaizer Chiefs R150 000+ less the richer.

Kaizer Chiefs has been hauled before the Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee (DC) for spectator violence at the Betway Premiership clash with Mamelodi Sundowns on September 28 at the FNB Stadium, and fined R100 000.

League prosecutor Zola Majavu said, of the R100 000, R50 000 was suspended for the rest of the season, on condition that the club was not found guilty of yet another spectator violence incident.

However, Majavu noted that the club still had another spectator violence fine, in which it was fined R100 000, with R50 000 suspended, but the suspension has not lapsed. Therefore, the club has been ordered to pay a total of R150 000, plus the costs of this siting of the DC, which will be computed and added to the fine.
AmaKhosi Amahle’s appearance before the DC follows the scoring of their last-minute gasp goal against the Brazilians, which was ruled offside and could have seen them drawing level at 2–2.
The disallowed goal had sparked a frenzy of celebrations in the stadium from fans who had hoped the Sundowns hoodoo had finally been broken, but they then started throwing an assortment of missiles onto the pitch in disapproval of the referee’s decision to overturn it.
The stadium rained missiles despite repeated appeals from club officials, asking the spectators to desist from throwing things onto the pitch. Masandawana came from behind to win the clash 2–1.
