A picture poacher is on the loose on the streets of Alex

Alexandra's Lebogang Raboshakga has taken a ravenous photography hobby and turned it into a full-time business.

There is a picture poacher on the loose on the streets of Alex who possesses a wolfish appetite for photographs; she snaps anything and everything that tells a story about her beloved ‘kasi lama kasi’.

She goes by the name of Lebogang Raboshakga and her photography company is named after a shortened version of her name and surname, Lee’ Rabs Photography which is now based on the corner of 8th Avenue and Alfred Nzo Street. She started operating in 2018 when she was still in high school.

“When the photography bug caught up with me, I had no equipment to start with and I resorted to using my cellphone to snap those interesting and story-filled pictures around my kasi. Two years later I got a camera and registered my business too,” Raboshakga said.

Besides telling stories about her kasi, Raboshakga said the random pictures that she takes must be so good that they would compel a person to love them and hang them on their wall.

“My goal with all these pictures is to ultimately mount an exhibition that will portray and tell a story of my kasi and its people and their way of life. I earn a living by also taking photos at events and special occasions such as weddings, birthday parties, and baby showers.”

Born in Thembisa; Raboshakga (24), has been moving from one kasi to the other with her single-parent mother. She matriculated from Allan Ridge Secondary School in Rabie Ridge in 2019 after which the family moved to Alex.
