Rough Inside gets their first big break with 96 000 strong crowd at their performance at FNB Stadium

Rough Inside from Alexandra group performs in front of the full packed FNB stadium during the EFF 10th Anniversary celebration making this their first ever biggest crowd.

The duo, Rough Inside finally got the break they’ve been praying for, while the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) were celebrating their 10-year anniversary. It’s the dream of most artists to perform in front of a fully packed FNB Stadium crowd.

“This event has been what we’ve been praying for since the birth of Rough Inside. We were once the members of a group named Tour Gang made of myself, Logo (Aphiwe Mankayi), Mojalefa and Mfanafuthi, (may his soul rest in peace). Once upon a time in 2017, we managed to organise a gig for Tour Gang at the D.A rally so it’s been what we’ve been gunning for. Mfanafuthi spent most of his money calling, texting, emailing the event organisers till it all worked out, so this one is also to honour him,” said Kamogelo ‘Kairo’ Moqayi, one half of Rough Inside.

From the 300-plus local artists that were runner ups, Rough Inside was one of the groups chosen to perform at the anniversary making this the biggest crowd and venue they’ve ever performed for and in.

“God has chosen us to represent the unfortunate ones. This is the first time in our lives that we get an opportunity to perform for this number of people.

“I don’t want to lie we’ve performed for the ANC provincial rally which had like 5000 plus people and Action S.A provincial rally which had like a thousand plus people. This is the first time in our lives that we get an opportunity to perform for this amount of people.”

The duo worked themselves to the bone pushing their brand and fighting to get recognised and heard in the music industry and their hard work is finally paying off.

“The very same thing we did for our brothers Tour Gang who were musicians in the band, we were assisting in every way we could to push the homies. Kairo was more active in the fashion field in the team as he had a clothing brand by then. We’ve spent time and money calling people that we got their numbers on the internet,” said Mankayi.

The work does not end here for them as they are still looking for greener pastures that will set them up for life. “We’re hoping that someone can discover us, aid us and elevate our careers because it’s been 10 long years since we started making good music for the good people.”
