The Sant Nirankari Mission in Marlboro donates 4000 food hampers to the people of Alexandra.

Sant Nirankari Mission in Marlboro organised a food drive at the Marlboro Temple, where they were distributing 4000 food hampers for the less fortunate people.

“Giving is merely an act until it’s done with an entire heart, feelings, and emotions. Today is not just about giving, but it’s about selflessly giving. God is everything, he has bestowed the capacity, and blessing in us that we can even move a bit, so we are not the doers here we are merely instruments. May we continue to always keep Ubuntu, which if it’s done right defeats the barriers of colour, race and nationality,” Her Holiness Satguru Mata Sudiksha Ji Maharaj said.

The Manzi Mashatile Foundation was also present to support the drive as one of their objectives is to support, identify, fund and support community-based initiatives like this one in Alexandra.

“I would like to thank her holiness for the generosity and spirit of giving. As a foundation, we are willing to work together with your association in helping the less disadvantaged. We don’t want to see this drive as a once-off thing, we want it to be a continuous initiative. We are willing to work together going forward into the future to make sure that we give the little that we have to underprivileged people. So, I’m very happy to have this opportunity to be here because we work so much with the people from Alexandra,” Deputy President of South Africa Paul Mashatile said.

CEO of the Manzi Mashatile Foundation Thabiso Mashatile said, “We are gathered here today in partnership with Sant Nirankari Mission, her holiness Satguru Mata Sudiksha Ji Maharaj has come from India to visit South Africa for the first time, her mission actually has a trust in South Africa, so they do this initiative every year but this year they invited the foundation to participate. They also wanted the president of the foundation, His Excellency Deputy President Paul Mashatile, which so happens to be my father, so we had to avail ourselves.”

Thabiso Mashatile touched on the significance of food drives in addressing hunger and poverty in communities like Alexandra.

“It’s no secret that South Africa is a poor country, the majority of our people go to bed hungry at night, so when you have an opportunity to distribute food, especially at the quantity we are doing today. I think it’s important that we do it and I think important for every person that can lend a helping hand, they should because we all know the context of the country we live in,” Thabiso Mashatile said.

Thabiso Mashatile also advised that the country needs to invest more in education in terms of long sustainable ways the country can utilise to end poverty.

“The long way to eradicate poverty in our country is basically our mission statement. I think through education people get a tool to fight poverty for themselves because they find sustainable ways to sustain themselves which is why education is the most important tool which we believe in as a foundation. Sure, we can distribute food on an annual or quarterly basis, but we need people to self-sustain by educating themselves and becoming economically active in our country,” Thabiso Mashatile said.
