A feast of football awaits avid fans on Youth Day

Black Poison team manager Thabang 'Monkey' Masangane may learn a hard lesson to be careful what you wish for as he kept yelling for Swidi Wodwa FC during the draw and his prayers were answered and he got his 'Sugar Only' side.

There will be a feast of football this year on Youth Day on June 16 and eight teams will battle it out to the converted DStv eKasi Champ of Champs Cup when the tournament kicks off on June 16 to July 2.

The kasi tournament, which is now in its second edition, will see eight of the best teams battle it out to determine ‘Bosso ke Mang’ in the province of Gauteng and Black Poison will be one of them after it automatically qualified to take part by virtue of winning the Maimane Alfred Phiri Games (Map Games) in Alexandra last year.

DStv has partnered with tournament founders, Phyllis Games, for a celebration of the pure essence of Mzansi football through this three-week-long DStv eKasi Champ of Champs tournament.

The tournament will be played at the KwaMahlobo Grounds in Meadowlands, Moletsane Sports Complex in Moletsane with the final to be staged at the Dobsonville Stadium in Dobsonville, Soweto.

The other four champions from the five tournaments qualified for the 2023 DStv eKasi Champ of Champs tournament will be joined by three invitational champions from outside Gauteng – Ramokoka United from North West, Ramatlaohle FC from Limpopo and Phaphama FC from Mpumalanga.

The tournament will use a plate and cup competition format to determine winners. Teams will play in a round-robin and group winners and runners-up will play for the main prize of R250 000 (Cup) and the bottom two teams in both groups will play for R70 000 (Plate section).

Speaking in an interview with Alex News, Black Poison team manager Thabang ‘Monkey’ Masangane may learn a hard lesson to be careful what you wish for as he kept yelling for Swidi Wodwa FC during the draw and his prayers were answered and he got his ‘Sugar Only’ side.

“I wanted Swidi Wodwa [Sugar Only] as they play a sweet brand of football and I wanted to give them an early ‘slow poison’ that will ensure they are eventually eliminated from the tournament.

“They are the biggest threat of the tournament and I keep my fingers crossed that my slow poison will do the job for me and they do not advance any further so that I can then easily win the DStv eKasi Champ of Champs,” the ‘Monkey’ said.

He said he was not undermining anyone, but he had picked it out that they play the best brand of football and they needed to be poisoned early on.
