Alex students ‘bag’ a mobile tech learnership programme

Robtronics/DUNOWORX company hosts a mobile tech learnership programme aimed at equipping learners from Alexandra and surrounding areas with tech skills.

Robtronics/Dunoworx launched its 2023 intake mobile tech learnership programme which provides an opportunity for learners to be introduced to the world of mobile technology and gain hands-on experience in the field.

The programme accommodates youth from townships such as Alexandra, Thembisa and Soweto and it is set to empower young people under the guidance of industry experts to earn a qualification in the mobile technology industry, leading to gainful employment.

“The learnership programme started last year March when our company took over the entire Cell C Repair Service Centre, and part of Cell C’s requirements was that they wanted us to develop a learnership programme which is a 51% black-owned entity, and also to facilitate and recruit a group of students and equip them with tech skills,” Mark Robbins, MD of Robtronics/Dunoworx said.

According to Robbins, the company had a three-year agreement with Cell C to employ 10 students every year and equip them with tech skills in the fight against youth unemployment.

Robbins said he and his wife had handpicked the successful candidates who had to be 18 to 28 years old, have a matric certificate, and be able to read and write English.

Alex candidate Luyanda Sikithi said, “I feel happy and excited to be one of the chosen candidates and I can’t wait for other opportunities that are going to come, and this will uplift me as a young person and open closed doors for my future.

“Today I learnt that it’s not how you start but how you finish, and I cannot wait for this journey to start.”
